If you thought the Shrek series had faded into the swamp for good, you’d be wrong. DreamWorks is bringing us a fifth installment, and they’ve just dropped a teaser to prove it. Mark your calendars—Shrek 5 is slated to arrive in theaters on December 23, 2025.Zendaya steps into the ogre family as the daughter of Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She’ll be joined by Eddie Murphy, back as the ever-talkative Donkey. However, it seems Antonio Banderas’ Puss in Boots might be sitting this one out, as he wasn’t mentioned in today’s official reveal.How Zendaya squeezed this role into her packed schedule is anyone’s guess. Last year, she starred in Dune: Part II and Challengers, and she’s already lined up for four projects this year: Euphoria, The Odyssey, Spider-Man 4, and Dune: Messiah.The Shrek franchise peaked with its second movie, yet they stretched it to four, with Shrek Forever After closing the chapter in 2010. Back in the day, the first two films were prestigious enough to screen in competition at Cannes. Times have changed, though. Here’s hoping Shrek 5 proves it’s more than just another unnecessary sequel.
